Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, commonly known as “Chinese rose,” “Chinese hibiscus,” or “Hawaiian hibiscus,” is a flowering tropical plant. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in tropical and subtropical regions, but is native to Vanuatu, Oceania. It grows as a dense, evergreen shrub or small tree that reaches 2.3–5 meters in height and 1.5–3 meters in width. The specific epithet rosa-sinensis literally means “Chinese rose,” although the plant is not closely related to true roses, nor is native to China.
