Oregano is a perennial, aromatic plant with a strong and pleasant scent, growing up to 90 cm in height. It can be found in well-lit forest edges, along trails and roads, in forest clearings, and on rocky slopes. It thrives best in warm, dry, and sunny places. Wild oregano is widely distributed across Europe, from Ireland and Scotland, through central Scandinavia, down to the Mediterranean, and eastward to Siberia. Many of its medicinal properties are attributed to the high percentage of essential oils it contains.
