This species belongs to the genus Salvia. It grows naturally in the southern and eastern parts of the Balkan Peninsula, extending as far as southeastern Romania. It produces attractive purple flowers with a pleasant fragrance. The essential oils and extracts of Salvia ringens have strong antioxidant, cytotoxic, and antimicrobial properties.
