The field maple is a tree that grows to a height of 20 meters. The bark of this species is gray-brown and rough with longitudinal cracks. It develops five-lobed leaves and yellowish-green flowers that appear after the leaves have sprouted. Its distribution area covers all of Europe, the Caucasus, Asia Minor and North Africa. In Macedonia, it is common in oak forests and also occurs as a part of submontane beech forests.
