Iris pseudacorus L.

The yellow iris is a perennial plant found in wet meadows, along rivers and streams, in marsh ecosystems, and canals. It grows naturally in Europe, North Africa, North and South America, and New Zealand. An interesting feature of this plant is that, in addition to thriving in freshwater, it can also successfully develop in saline waters. In horticulture, it is used as a decorative plant, while in traditional medicine, its rhizome is used as a diuretic and for treating eczema. In the past, the seeds of this plant were used as a substitute for caffeine-free coffee.
