Salvia officinalis L.

Sage is an aromatic, low shrub with a woody stem, typically growing from 20 to 70 cm in height. The branches are usually prostrate on the ground, either branching out or growing upright. Sage grows on limestone scree in the Mediterranean region and is believed to originate from the Balkan Peninsula, from where it spread to the Western Mediterranean. As a cultivated plant, it is grown throughout most of Europe and parts of North America.
